Wellfounded Botanicals is a woman/Latinx-owned, premium cannabis brand dedicated to plant-based wellness. Our fearless farmer and founder, Sara Rotman, discovered CBD and THC alleviated her worst Crohn’s disease symptoms. She and her husband now grow the cannabis that is used in all Wellfounded formulas on their organic, sun-grown, Clean Green Certified family-run farm in Santa Barbara.

Each Wellfounded Botanicals product is inspired by Sara’s experiences and offers the same therapeutic relief she finds today. The cannabis oil in our products is derived from our harvest’s finest whole flower (never trim), using natural terpenes, no additives, and only the cleanest methods of extraction. Our revolutionary formulas incorporate proven plant-based ingredients such as spirulina, safflower, marula, baobab, shea, jojoba, avocado, green tea, marine algae, and more.

Our blue bird icon has been a lifelong talisman of our fearless farmer and founder, Sara Rotman. Once used as a tattoo sailors received to signify the huge feet of crossing of the equator, Sara received these birds on her wrists as a symbolic gesture when launching her first independently-owned business.

When Sara and her husband Nate moved to their now family farm, they were greeted with an abundance of bluebirds—a welcome sign from mama earth herself.

These birds are a daily reminder to Sara, Nate, and the entire Wellfounded team to live free and be happy.

We are steadfast supporters of our local Food Bank of Santa Barbara County. Second only in poverty ranking to Los Angeles, our Latinx and farm workers are the most vulnerable and disproportionately affected populations. Agriculture is the backbone of our region, and we are committed to providing access to safe and healthy food for those who labor tirelessly in the fields to farm the very food they cannot afford to eat.

No, not all of them. All Wellfounded Botanicals products use cannabis oil derived from the Clean Green Certified cannabis on our farm in Santa Barbara. We also grow numerous herbs, fruits and flowers on the farm, for personal consumption and small-batch releases. However, there are a lot of amazing ingredients that we can’t grow on our land (yet!). We source high-quality ingredients from across the globe to ensure that we’re providing you with the best products possible.

The cannabis used in Wellfounded’s products is grown on our family-owned Clean-Green Certified cultivation where strict sustainability rules and practices are followed. Clean Green Certified is a voluntary program for cannabis farmers who grow organically. It mirrors the USDA National Organic Program’s organic certification requirements and is recognized as having the highest level of farming standards in the world. As organic farmers we are committed stewards of the land, dedicated to ecological balance and sustainable practices such as:

Soil Enrichment: Use of annual cover crops to improve soil health and increase its biological diversity.

Increasing Biodiversity: Planting diverse crops throughout the entire farm including, fruiting and indigenous trees and shrubs.

Integrated Pest Management: Application of beneficial insects used as natural enemies of pests as our almost exclusive pest management process.

Sun-Grown Cultivation: Taking advantage of our most powerful resource, the California sun, our farm doesn’t use any artificial lighting or electricity driven fans in the growth of our product. Just good old-fashioned sun and a constant breeze from the west keeping our plants free of powdery mildew and mold.

Preserving Water (Zero Runoff): Our water system is the most efficient in the state. With solar powered switches and moisture monitors throughout the farm, we are able to precisely calculate and control exactly how much water our plants need. This eliminates runoff of water and nutrients and protects our ground table and vital water resources.

Conducting Ongoing On-Farm Testing: As responsible precision ag farmers, we conduct ongoing water, soil and tissue analysis to ensure exact plant water and nutrient needs are met.

Cannabis contains over 500 active compounds. At least 113 of these belong to a family of diverse chemical compounds called cannabinoids.

THC and CBD are both cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant. There are over 100 identified cannabinoids produced by the plant in addition to THC and CBD.

THC can alleviate pain, enhance mood & well-being, creates an urge to eat, and provides a “high” feeling that has typically been associated with the cannabis “high.”

CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that can combat anxiety & depression, reduce nausea and vomiting, relieve inflammation, and provide balance to the “high” effects of THC.

It’s been widely researched and is now accepted that when multiple cannabinoids are administered at the same time, they are able to work synergistically with one another to magnify the beneficial effects of each of these compounds. This concept is also known as “The Entourage Effect”.

We process fresh frozen, whole flower cannabis from our family farm using a CO2 level of extraction. CO2 is a natural solvent and avoids the use of petroleum-based solvents such as butane or propane. It’s a super clean and safe process that you can read more about in this Leafly article.

While cannabis can certainly be beneficial for pets, we formulated our products specifically for humans. Please consult your veterinarian to help you determine a healthy and safe cannabis regimen for your favorite four-legged friends.

Throughout the manufacturing process, all Wellfounded Botanicals products are tested in the parts per billion by a licensed, third-party lab for cannabinoid profiles, potency levels, and to ensure they are clear of pesticides, heavy metals, and bacteria.

Cannabis from our Clean Green certified family farm are first tested in their natural flower form. Once testing is verified, we process our fresh frozen, whole flower into cannabis oil. A sample of the oil extraction is also rigorously tested. The extract is then blended with other high performance botanicals that make up each of our signature formulas and sent out for more testing. Finally, the packaged products are tested one final time for state-mandated compliance and approved for distribution.

All Wellfounded Botanicals use ratios of CBD and THC; the two primary cannabinoids in cannabis. Ratios that are heavier in THC focus more on acute pain. Ratios that are heavier in CBD are generally used for treating inflammation and stress. Since each person has a unique endocannabinoid system, we often encourage clients to experiment to see which products and ratios work best for them.
